We all grew up trying to save the princess from King Koopa or Bowser. And so, Nintendo came out with a spin offs from its trademark Super Mario Series. There have been 6 Mario Kart games released for home consoles, three portable games, and four Namco co-developed games. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the latest release on Nintendo Switch in 2017. Mario Kart series has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide.

Racing is generally one of gaming’s most enjoyable genre. Perhaps why Mario was put to Kart to race. For years it has dominated the kart racing scene and everybody still loves Mario. But, not everyone has a Nintendo console to play it with. So, what to do besides watch a seatmate play it on his Switch? Try out one of these games and it might just give you Mario Kart feels.

Developed by Sumo Digital and published by Sega, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is a kart racing video game that is sequel to Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and fourth installment in the Sega Superstars This is also the eight in Sonic The Hedgehog series. Players can race against each other by over 20 characters from different Sega franchises, like Sonic, Jet Set Radio, and so on. If you are a long time Sega fan, this game is for you as it calls back classic Sega characters. With transformations being the heart of the game, enjoy running lapses and taking courses by transforming your vehicle between race car, boat or airplane whenever needed.

Garfield Kart

Second Games Like Mario Kart was Garfield kart. Take your journey in Garfield’s beautiful world that has over sixteen different circuits. This world consists of farm, city, the misty duck, manor house, supermarket, and more. This game may not come close to having Nintendo or Sega worry about their creations but it certainly has a surprisingly solid game. Based on the Garfield Show, be on the race that features eight of its cast; Odie, Jon, Nermal, Arlene, Liz, Squeak, the toon-original Harry, and of course, Garfield. You may only use Garfield or Jon but as you progress on, you may unlock to use Liz, Odie, and more.

Wacky Wheels

Third Games Like Mario Kart was Wacky Wheels. One of the oldest kart race there was, Wacky Wheels was released 1994 by Apogee Software and was only running on MS-DOS. It was later on released on Steam with support for Microsoft Windows and macOS in 2015 but as part of 3D Realms Anthology. Closely resembling to Super Mario Kart, it uses lawn mowers instead of karts and has eight playable characters which are creatures from the zoo. As you race, you may collect hedgehogs and bombs for you to use to distract your rivals. It can be played single or multiplayer through split screen, modem or direct serial link.

Crash Team Racing

Fourth Games Like Mario Kart was Crash Team Racing. Published by Sony Computer Entertainment for PlayStation, Crash Team Racing is a kart racing video game developed by Naughty Dog and released in 1999 (NA). This is the fourth installment in the Crash Bandicoot Series. Players control characters from the Crash Bandicoot universe. Accelerate, steer, reverse, brake, hop, use weapons with the game controllers analog sticks and buttons. This game has received different reviews as some might say it is highly influenced by Mario Kart while others claim it made kart racing cool. Some also got dragged off by that annoying smile of Crash with dollar sign.


Fifth Games Like Mario Kart was Blur. This new style of racing developed by Bizarre Creations and published by Activision is claimed to be one of the hardest racing games there is. While the weapons have been greatly inspired by Mario Kart, it merged real life cars instead of karts. Tracks are also based on real world environments like LA river canals and a lot of parts from London. Blur can be played single player or by maximum of 20 players over the internet, LAN in the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
